Address Verification Service (AVS) is a system that checks a credit card holder’s billing address with the card issuer at the time of purchase. We include an AVS request as part of the authorization indicating whether the billing address given by the cardholder matches the billing address on file with the Card Issuer. If your card is declined because you give the wrong billing address, the bank that issued your credit card may show that the amount of the order has been preauthorized as a pending charge in your account. However, this pending charge will be voided automatically after a brief period of time that is determined by the issuing bank.
